There has been some confusion regarding postings for birds that are at shelters. When a bird/animal goes to a shelter, it is assigned an ID number so that the shelter will be able to keep track of it. Also, when someone inquires about a particular bird/animal, they can use that ID number, and the shelter will know exactly what bird/animal the person is interested in.
The ID number that is referenced in the postings for a shelter bird is NOT a leg band number. The ID number from the shelter usually starts with "A".

With a relief, I am pleased to inform you a kind lady found Kiwi yesterday
afternoon. We live right in the westend blocks for Robson and Thurlow.
There
were 5 people out looking immediately (9:30am was the escape time). My
daughter
was on the computer doing what she could from here. By 11:30 am I had
hundred
of posters to be hung and there were 3 of us hanging them. I live in such a
wonderful city. The city workers, the panhandlers, the firemen, even the
Sutton
Place Hotel people helped. We were on rooftops of the hotel, condo
buildings
looking everywhere. Within a halfhour of the posters going up, we already
had
two calls. One of the calls was a woman who found her, Kiwi was so afraid
she
crawled righ up the ladies arm and a poster was hanging right in front of
her
and she called us. The New Years celebrations with random firecrackers were
set
to start going off soon. My family is so blessed to live in a city with so
many
helpful strangers AND neighbors, we were hysterical and still feel so
traumatized by the whole experience. She was kept warm and suffered a sm.
scratch on her face. It was a bit swollen last night but we cleaned it and
it
looks better this am. I am watching for infection and will take Kiwi to Dr.
MacDonald as soon as she needs to go.
My daughter was the one who registered this acct. and she wasnt home for me
to
find what/how to say the bird was found.
Thanks so much for the email and I am still sobbing thinking she could of
been
gone from us.
We have had Kiwi for 1.5 yrs, she was a rehome. Not once has she ever
flown,
her clip had grown out a bit and she needed it done. Yesterday, the door
was
half open and she looked and decided to fly and just flew off!!!!!! Kiwi
was
just doing what her instinct said to do. We are so lucky.

Hello All,
I'm new to the group I Have 6 Macaws 2 CAG, and assorted smaller
birds.
On May 19, 2007 My Mascot, and good friend Bunky (Severe Macaw) went
missing She
and the others were in an out door aviary when she found a flaw in
the lower
door she simply walked out side, and when I went to pick her up she
took flight
in a 30kt. Wind before we new it she was out of sight.
She was last seen in the southeast Ft Lauderdale Fl. Area. She is
very well
socialized and friendly so I'm sure someone has her and they may join
a group
looking for help on how to care for her. So every one please keep
your eyes open
for anyone from our area bragging about a new bird…

We lost our beautiful green and red conure named Jasper on 7/29/05 when we moved to our new home in Wilbraham, MA. He got spooked and flew out of the garage. He had never been outside before and stuck around the neighborhood for 3 days, but didn't seem to be able to fly down to us. He is very smart and loves to eat apples and spaghetti. He is 17 years old and we've had him for 7 years. He has a band around his right ankle.

According to the description it sounds like a cherry head or a mitred conure. This bird flew onto someone's shoulder in Somerville, MA. We have his contact info. "I picked up the below conure from the finder. It is unclear exactly when this bird was found. I only talked to the finder's son. It was told to me the "winter" of last year. I will be bringing the bird tomorrow to get groomed but plan on leaving the wings intact leaving his options open for foster placement. I will be getting his band status which will be needed for positive identification. Have been in touch with Otis' dad and will touch base again with him tomorrow, with the numbers [LOST: DC, Cherry Headed Conure "Otis" May 05.07]."

REUNITED AFTER 2 1/2 YEARS!!!
I received an email from an AWESOME admin at 911PA asking if I would check on the above conure. I picked him up and checked through our files again. I called Brian, Otis' dad, not quite sure on the 'Mitred' versus 'Cherryhead' species and wanting to get Otis' band number, which he had. After picking this little guy up and discovering he was in desperate need of a groom (nails) I brought him to my groomer which is about an hour away. In checking files I also contacted 'Jasper's' parronts just to ask the status of Jasper, who had been missing for over two years. Whereas the 'found' bird was wild-caught, I was especially cognizant of finding proper placement of this foster. Wrestling back and forth, I felt it would be best to integrate him back into a flock of conures should his 'parronts' not ultimately be found. It was agreed through Foster Parrots that they would take him on in this scenario.
No need, though...Jasper's Mom, Angel, called me back while I was at my groomers, which was about an hour from her. With my groomer's help we were able to answer questions about Jasper...confirming his arthritic right foot and toes, his 'small' band on the right foot, his odd feathering due to prior neglect and plucking on his chest. They decided to make the trek regardless of the impending storm. I asked for pictures, which when they arrived were plenty, including a picture showing the wild-caught band on Jasper. Emotions were very heavy with anticipation upon their arrival. Jasper was let out of his carrier, did the 'once around' and proceeded to land on Angel. Meanwhile, pictures were being compared from every angle. The reunite was clenched, however, when Angel asked Jasper for a kiss and he walked up her arm and gave her a kiss, twice in a row. I called Angel the next morning who said that the minute Jasper saw his old cage, he climbed right back in like he never left and had a good night's sleep, relieved to be home at last from his long journey!

female (no neck ring) aount 15 inches tall including the tail. Green
with red on wing "shoulders". Her name is Peter and her feet are

HE FEED THEM SUNFLOWER SEEDS AND THEN MY DAD TOLD ME TO REFILL AND CLEAN THEIR WATER BOTTLE, WHEN I WAS DONE CLEANING OUT THE WATER BOTTLE I WENT BACK OUTSIDE WERE THE HOMEMADE CAGE WERE AND THE CAGE ONLY HAD 1 COCKATIEL I WAS REALLY SCARED REALLY REALLY I WAS WONDER WERE ARE THE OTHER COCKATIEL THEN I GO SCREAMING FOR MY DAD HE WAS WHISLING FOR SOME REASON THEN I ASK WHY IS THERE ONE COCKATIEL? HE SAID TWO LEFT GONE FOREVER. I ASK WHY?? HE TOLD ME WHEN YOU WERE OUT REFILLING THE WATERBOTTLE I WANTED TO GIVE MORE SUNFLOWER SEEDS TO THE BIRDS AND WHEN I OPENED THE DOOR TWO OF THEM FLEW FASTER THAN A BLINK! AND I THOUGHT THEY WERE ON THE PEAR TREE THE JUST FLEW AWAY. I WAS REALLY SAD NOBODY HAD FEELINGS FOR THEM WUAHHHHH!!!! ! I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SAD!!!!!
