Hi Jaime,
I've been where you are. I am married with three daughters & three
grandchildren now. When I got married I wanted to stay at home with
the kids and my hubby wanted me to also. We lived in NJ at the time,
so very very expensive. So we decided we needed to live somewhere
less expensive so we moved to PA. At the time only 1 1/2 hr away,
much less expensive cost of living and we managed.
Life was really hard at times but looking back it was also very
rewarding, especially now that my youngest is a jr in HS. We have so
many memories I wouldn't trade for anything. We camped for
vacations. I babysat during the summer, my kids had playmates and we
had a bit of extra spending money.
We learned to make do with what we had. I shopped garage sales and
good will for everyday clothes and only bought new for special
occassions and birthdays. I did a lot of cooking from scratch. My
kids prefer our homemade pizza to store bought since that is what they
grew up on & it is so much cheaper and healthier. We always had a
garden in the summer and drove older cars.
I did crafts and sewing and made a lot of gifts we gave and am a great
bargain hunter. I feel books make wonderful gifts (I love to get them
also) and there are a lot of outlets and great sales on them).
A lot of these choices aren't for everyone but they were right for
us since me being home with the kids was more important then material
things.
Hope this helps,
Have a great day,
Marlene
