Actually, you should never use any type of soap or cleaner when you clean up a mess on your carpet. Soap may get the stain out, but will trap dirt and odors more. I had carpet in my kitchen at my old house, my husband came home and got tar on it. I used soap and water to clean it (along with goo-gone) and it came up. But their was always a "stain" there, because the soap trapped the dirt when we came in the kitchen door.

Try goo- gone and just water. That should work!

was able to take it all out. I used woolite carpet cleaner for the
carpet shampooers. When I purchased my carpet they guy told me to avoid
shampooing for as long as I could because most carpets have stain guard
and it remains effective until you wash it with a carpet shampooer. Most
stains on new carpet will come up with plain soap and water. Considering
my white carpet was not even a month old and I was able to blot up my
