Kids just want to play and have fun and feel excited. Use what you have in
your house to decorate it as much as you can to make it more exciting. Ask
friends and family if they have party decorations in storage they can loan
you. Keep the food fun and simple. Kids that age don't eat much and hot
dogs, chips and kool aid will make them happy. Make the cake yourself if
you can decorate or make cupcakes (much easier to serve) in pink. Maybe a
whole pink party if she likes pink, especially if it's after valentines day
then you can get stuff half off! Maybe buy a bunch of dress up stuff and
let them play dress up, do makeup and nails and style hair, take pictures of
them, and print them and frame them in dollar store frames as their party
favor (maybe they get to keep a tiara or something).
I know even my 12 (to be 13 in February) just likes to have a sleepover
every year. He gets to invite 10 friends with their various PSP and
Nintendo DS's, we got an air hockey table, they have guitars and just play
and talk all night till they fall asleep. I usually put a movie on around
11pm so they are quiet and the tired ones are able to fall asleep. I've
taken to buying basketballs (they always seem to have a sale for $3 right
before his party) and each boy gets one as a party favor. Much better than
goodie bags with the older boys and if they don't all show then we can use
the extras. We do hot dogs and chips early, then around midnight make pizza
(homemade) and pancakes for breakfast so it's cheap for food even with that
many growing boys.
