I make a 5 gallon bucket of dry stuff. I use 5 bars of Fels Naptha bar soap. Miejer's has it (near the dish soap) but so does our local grocery store. I use 3 bars of Zote. This is a bar of Landry soap. I get this at Wal Mart. it's near the stain remover stuff. They are giant pink bars. Also Dollar General has it. I use 5 bars of Kirk's Original Coco Castile soap. I get this at Miejer's also in the laundry aisle. I grate this all up in an old food processor. After it's all ground up I add 2 - 4lb boxes of Borax. I add 2 - 3 lb boxes of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda. I then add in 2 - 1 lb boxes of Purex Color Safe Bleach. I then find a 5 lb box of the cheapest powdered laundry detergent that I can find, usually Purex, at Dollar General or Wal Mart if they have it. I add this because otherwise it doesn't suds up. I'm funky & if I don't see the suds in the washing machine I feel that the clothes aren't getting clean. I then tell the kids MIX IT UP!!!
They love to pitch in & mix it all up, especially my son Joey!!!
When I wash the clothes I add approximately 1/2 to a 1/3rd of a cup to a load of clothes. There are 5 of us & that usually lasts approximately 5 weeks. It cost's me approximately 20.00 to make a full bucket. I do at least 3-4 loads of laundry a day. I have never cared for the dry stuff but this works really good & it smells really good.
I also buy Suavitel Concentrated Fabric Softener. I get 2 - 40 oz (I think, I threw the jugs out but I bought an 80 oz just now at Wal Mart for 6.00) that I usually get at Family Dollar for approximately 3.00 a piece. I have an old 300 oz laundry detergent jug that I rinsed this out really well. I dump both into the old laundry jug & fill it the rest of the way with water. Sometimes I will also add a half gallon of white vinegar to the jug with the fabric softener & then fill it the rest of the way with water. I use vinegar because it makes the clothes rinse cleaner & they're a lot softer.
I have been experimenting for approximately 3-4 years with all of the laundry soap recipes & this is the best one that I have found for the money. The liquid is like slime & I didn't think it worked as well as this dry recipe.
Hope this helps.

mix, and used it for a while? How well does it work? Is it a huge
mess to make/store/use? Looking for some firsthand knowledge before i
